WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

THIS IS A 6 DAY IN-PERSON COURSE 9:00-5:00 ONE DAY PER WEEK FOR 6 WEEKS


RECOMMENDED PREPARATION FOR LEVEL 3 AWARD IN WINES


IN SIX FULL-DAY SESSIONS YOU WILL LEARN:

  • to identify key factors in the vineyard and winery and explain their impact on the style, quality and price of wine
  • to identify and describe the characteristics of still wines from key production regions and explain how market forces and the key factors in the vineyard and winery can impact the style, quality and price of these wines
  • to identify and describe the characteristics of sparkling wines from key production regions and explain how market forces and the key factors in the vineyard and winery can impact the style, quality and price of these wines
  • to identify and describe the characteristics of fortified wines from key production regions and explain how the key factors in the vineyard and winery can impact the style, quality and price of these wines
  • to communicate wine recommendations with respect to bottle selection, service and storage, in addition to food and wine pairing
  • to taste and describe key characteristics of principal still wines and deliver an assessment of quality and readiness for drinking


YOU WILL TASTE:

  • OVER 80 benchmark wines from dozens of key producing regions around the world


YOU WILL BE TESTED:

  • on the afternoon of the 6th session candidates will sit a closed book tasting and theory exam
  • TASTING EXAM: 30 minutes to taste and assess 2 blind wines - a minimum grade of 55% is required to pass
  • THEORY EXAM: 2 hours for a 2 part exam consisting of 50 multiple choice questions and 4 x 25 mark short written answer questions - a minimum grade of 55% ON EACH PART is required to pass


SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE AWARDED:

  • a well-earned audible sigh of SWEET RELIEF
  • an internationally recognized formal qualification in wine
  • an official WSET certificate and lapel pin
